Products and services in diabetes care

Diabetes is a disorder characterised by increased blood sugar levels resulting from insufficient or absent insulin production and the body's decreased ability to use insulin. Type 1 diabetes is diagnosed most often in children and young adults, but can occur in all ages. In type 1 diabetes, the insulin-producing cells in the pancreas are destroyed and no insulin, or too little insulin, is produced. To control blood sugar levels, daily injections of insulin are required for life.

Type 2 diabetes typically occurs in adults over 40 years of age, but due to lifestyle the number of children and adolescents with this disease is on the rise.

In type 2 diabetes the pancreas does not produce enough insulin, and the insulin that is produced is not used effectively in the body. While diet and exercise are the foundation for controlling blood sugar levels, most people with type 2 diabetes also require treatment with tablets and insulin.

Novo Nordisk offers the broadest portfolio of diabetes products in the industry, as well as an extensive range of user-friendly pen devices for injecting insulin.

Novo Nordisk has also developed a range of diabetes services, including educational materials for both healthcare professionals and people with diabetes.
