By the end of 2006 Novo Nordisk employed 23,613 employees, which translated into 23,172 full-time positions.12,214 full time positions in Denmark, 2,944 in Europe (excluding Denmark), 2,846 in North America, 980 in Japan and Oceania, and 4,188 in International Operations.
Occupational injuries: Performance on the health and and safety indicator 'frequency of occupational injuries' was 6.2 in 2006. There were 0 fatalities in 2006. There is a continued high focus on ensuring rigorous health and safety standards for employees in Novo Nordisk.
Absenteeism: The rate of absence in 2006 was 3.0, compared to 3.2 in 2005.
Employee turnover: The employee turnover in 2006 was 10.0 compared to 8.0 in 2005.
Job satisfaction: The average of respondents' answers to the question 'Does your work give you an opportunity to use and develop your competences/skills?' was 3.9 out of a possible 5. The target is at or above 3.5.
Diversity and equal opportunities: The ratio of men to women was 1.03 at the end of 2006 and decreased from 1.05 at the end of 2005 (counted on number of employees). 50.8% of the employees were men, compared to 51.2% at the end of 2005. The average of respondents' answers to the question 'Do people from diverse backgrounds have equal opportunities?' remained unchanged with 3.9 out of a possible 5, which is above the target of 3.5.
Employee training and development: In 2006 annual spending on training, measured as average spend per employee, increased by 14% to 11,293 Danish kroner. The money spent per employee does not fully reflect investments in training in Novo Nordisk since on-the-job training, internal seminars and other activities are not included.
Novo Nordisk does not record average hours of training per year per employee as this is not deemed to be a meaningful proxy for the level of investments in training.
