Wages and benefits
Novo Nordisk's remuneration package is considered competitive and market-related. In Denmark, the basic salary constitutes around 80% of the full remuneration package.
In 2006 Novo Nordisk paid a total of 12.776 million Danish kroner in wages, salaries, pensions, social security contributions and other employee costs. See also the cash value distribution. Other benefits offered to all Novo Nordisk employees include:

Additional benefits vary within the organisation and follow local labour market terms. In Denmark, where 53% of the employees are located, benefits include holiday homes, employee clubs and associations, annual summer party, Christmas present, social counselling, reimbursement of medical costs (related to Novo Nordisk products only), kindergarten, leisure and sports facilities, and canteens.
Trade unions
Novo Nordisk has formal agreements with trade unions at national level in countries where this is possible. Through these agreements, the right to collective bargaining is recognised. In Denmark, the employees are organised in a number of company unions (clubs) according to profession:
- Semi-skilled workers
- Skilled workers
- Salaried staff (not including specialists, managers and vice presidents).
