Novo Nordisk Haemophilia Foundation (NNHF)

The Novo Nordisk Haemophilia Foundation (NNHF) was set up in 2005 as a response to the significant need to improve haemophilia treatment in the developing world, underlining our social responsibility within haemophilia care. The Foundation supports sustainable local and regional projects as well as the advancement of relations between healthcare professionals, patient associations and authorities within the haemophilia community.

NNHF operates on an annual donation of approximately 10 million Danish kroner (1.7 million US dollars) from Novo Nordisk. In time it is NNHF’s goal to secure additional funding from other partners.

To date, seven projects have been implemented in Brazil, China, Algeria, Lebanon, Poland, Uzbekistan and Venezuela. Another seven have received approval but are not yet in operation, and applications are expected from many more countries.

Performance 2006

NNHF activities in 2006 included:

  • Internal and external launch of the Foundation
  • Production of the haemophilia advocacy film ‘The Right to Care’, which won gold awards at the World Media Festival in Hamburg
  • Participation in the World Federation of Haemophilia’s world haemophilia congress in Vancouver, as well as in several national haemophilia symposia and events
  • Establishment of project management structures and tools for starting and running the projects

In 2007 NNHF plans to initiate an award and a training fellowship for doctors.
