Key performance indicators
In 2004 Novo Nordisk began to report on the company's financial and non-financial performance in one inclusive document, the Annual Report. This integration reflects the company's commitment to the Triple Bottom Line, ie to ‘strive to conduct its activities in a financially, environmentally and socially responsible way’. Recognising that truly integrated reporting is more than merging two documents into one volume, Novo Nordisk has embarked on a process to further integrate reporting practices.
This entails alignment of key priorities, target-setting and definition of key performance indicators in consultations that involve internal and external stakeholders. This is done in respect of current best practice and the principles of materiality, completeness and responsiveness. Data definitions are given in accounting policies.
In 2005 Novo Nordisk reviewed the reporting format of the company's sustainability-driven activities. The ‘environmental and social highlights table’ and the Triple Bottom Line performance indicators presented in the Novo Nordisk Annual Report 2004 were assessed on the basis of stakeholder feedback and as part of the assurance process. As a result, material performance data presented in the Annual Report 2005 was changed and captured in the non-financial highlights with supporting notes.
The non-financial statements in the section ‘How we are accountable’ present and discuss performance during 2006. The selection of information reflects evolving priorities in response to business and societal challenges.
To ensure transparency, an update of the complete non-financial key performance data and key performance indicators is available together with interactive charts for underlying data.
Key performance indicators are categorised as:
- Economic impacts
- Environmental impacts
- Social impacts
The complete set of Triple Bottom Line indicators is available here (consistently reported since 2001).
