Awards and recognitions

Awards and recognition Awards and recognitions can be seen as an indicator of the stakeholders’ perception of a company based on its activities or the quality of its communications. Such accolades contribute to shaping the company's reputation in the public domain and among key opinion-formers and stakeholders.

Performance 2006

Once again in 2006 Novo Nordisk received a number of honours and awards relating to its performance and its Triple Bottom Line approach to doing business. The following is a record of our corporate and national awards.

Corporate awards

  • The Danish postal service PostDanmark: Novo Nordisk was presented with the Danish Direct Marketing Award 2006 for Best International Campaign. Novo Nordisk won the award for a campaign designed to increase familiarity with GlucaGen® HypoKit – the little 'life-saver' that many people with diabetes keep in the refrigerator in case of hypoglycaemia.
  • Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design: NovoPen® 4 received the prestigious GOOD DESIGN Award for its outstanding industrial design and innovative graphic design programme in the
  • category ‘Medical Equipment’.
  • The Danish business magazine ‘Berlingske Nyhedsmagasin’: For the second year in a row Novo Nordisk came out first overall in the annual image poll ‘Guld Image 2006’. Novo Nordisk was ranked number 1 in the categories communication and responsibility, while taking second place in leadership, innovation, credibility, quality and employees
  • ‘Ingeniøren’: For the sixth year in a row, Novo Nordisk was rated number 1 in the annual image survey ‘Profil’. The company came top in all categories. One of the arguments for the placing was Novo Nordisk’s approach to stakeholder engagement.
  • Teleos, in association with the KNOW Network: Novo Nordisk was recognised as a 2006 Global Most Admired Knowledge Enterprises (MAKE) Winner. The self-nominated applications are judged by a panel of Global Fortune 500 senior executives and international knowledge management experts.
  • The Danish Association of Chartered Accountants (FSR) and the Danish financial newspaper ‘Børsen’: Novo Nordisk won an award for the ‘best non-financial report’ issued in Denmark in 2005. This was the tenth time Novo Nordisk had been recognised since FSR and ‘Børsen’ established their sustainability awards in 1995. The jury noted that the non-financial reporting explores Novo Nordisk’s future business opportunities, and highlighted how the company plans to manage the dilemmas of a global business that is poised for high growth. They further stated that Novo Nordisk is agenda-setting by demonstrating how non-financial issues can be relevant to investors and other stakeholders, why a sustainable business model is important, and how the company is working to be part of the solution – not the problem.

Novo Nordisk Argentina

  • Best Place to Work Institute: Novo Nordisk was ranked first in the category ‘Best Pharmaceutical Company To Work For’ and fifth across all industries. For the last four years Novo Nordisk Argentina has come out as number one in the first category.
  • ‘Apertura’: Novo Nordisk was rated second in the category ‘Best company’ by this leading local business magazine.
  • Argentinian Society of Marketing: Novo Nordisk came out as number one in ‘Best Performing Pharmaceutical Company’. Furthermore, NovoSeven® was ranked as ‘Best Pharmaceutical Product Performance Since Launch’ and came second in the category ‘Educational Materials/Services’.

Novo Nordisk Finland

  • Great Place to Work Institute: Novo Nordisk was named the second-best place to work in Finland.

Novo Nordisk France (Sales)

  • The French diabetologists’ journal: Novo Nordisk's product Levemir® was awarded an innovation prize, the ‘Prix impact médicine de l’innovation prix diabétologie’, by the readers of this French journal.

Novo Nordisk Germany

  • EU Clinical Research Team Award 2005 for study NN2211-1571

Novo Nordisk IT (NNIT)

  • World Media Festival: NNIT received three gold awards at this major European festival for communications professionals held in Hamburg, Germany. The gold awards were received for ‘The Right to Care’ (haemophilia) and ‘Mads Øvlisen – 34 years at Novo Nordisk’. Two of the awards were in the category ‘The Right to Care’ (haemophilia), namely ‘The Right to Care’: ‘Public Relations: Health’ and ‘The Right to Care’ :‘Public Relations: Fundraising’. The third gold award was for ‘Mads Øvlisen – 34 years at Novo Nordisk’ in the category ‘Documentaries: Biography’.

Novo Nordisk Norway

  • Storebrand SRI: Novo Nordisk was honoured for its ‘Best in Class’ performance in the area of environmental and social responsibility. With this award Novo Nordisk maintained the leadership position it has held since 2003, symbolised by the right to use the Storebrand ‘butterfly’ logo.

Novo Nordisk Poland

  • Diabetes Association: for NovoMix®30 and NovoRapid®
  • Diabetica Expo 2006: for Levemir®

Novo Nordisk Romania

  • National Congress of Diabetes: Novo Nordisk received a diploma of recognition.
  • National Congress of Haematology: Novo Nordisk received a diploma of recognition.
  • National Congress of Ginaecology: Novo Nordisk received a diploma of appreciation. 
  • Clients attending the ADA and EASD congresses: Novo Nordisk received recognition of organising best attendance.
  • Diabetes Foundation for children & teenagers: Novo Nordisk received recognition and appreciation.
  • Children’s home (homeless): Novo Nordisk received recognition.

Novo Nordisk Sweden

  • The Malmø Business Community Award: presented to Ulla Hedner for her work in developing methods of treatment for people with haemophilia.

Novo Nordisk Taiwan

  • Taiwan Diabetes Educator Association: Award for social responsibility.
  • Diabetes Patient Club in NTUH: Award for social responsibility.
  • Honey Club of Kaohsiung Municipal Hospitals: Award for social responsibility.
  • Taiwan Diabetes Association: Award for social responsibility.
  • Children's Growth Association: Award for social responsibility.
  • Taiwan Endocrine Association: Award for social responsibility.

Novo Nordisk United Kingdom

  • UK CRD: European Phase 4 Award for the 4T study.
  • ‘PharmaTimes’ awards: Novo Nordisk received a bronze medal.

Novo Nordisk USA (NNI Princeton)

  • James D. Watson Helix Award for Biotechnology Industry Leadership: Novo Nordisk was presented with this prestigious award and recognised as Best International Company by peers.
  • NJBiz best Places to work in NY: ranked number 2
  • Martin Soeters named chairman of the fourth ADA America's Walk for Diabetes

Novo Nordisk USA (NNDT California)

  • City of Hayward Business Recognition Award for month of February for contributions to the city.
  • BayBio: Novo Nordisk, Novozymes and Novo Venture A/S were awarded the International Achievement Award. The companies received the award for their commitment to Northern California.

Novo Nordisk Belarus

  • Children's Diabetes Association: Novo Nordisk received a Community Activity Award.
  • ‘Health and Success’. This medical journal awarded Novo Nordisk ‘The best partner for 10 years’ for education work in diabetes care.

Novo Nordisk Bosnia & Herzegovina

  • Canton Sarajevo Ministry of Health: Novo Nordisk received a ‘Letter of Thanks’ for its support in developing and advancing the canton's healthcare system.

Novo Nordisk Jordan

  • Jordanian Association for the care of Diabetes: Novo Nordisk gets an award for the continuous support from the company.

Novo Nordisk Ukraine

  • Orphan Boarding School: TakeAction! donation.
  • Diabetic Foundation Kiev: recognition for opening two diabetes schools.
  • Zaporozhie Patient Organisation: recognition for summer camp sponsorship.

Production sites

Novo Nordisk Montes Claros

  • Montes Claros Municipal Legislative Chamber: Site Montes Claros was awarded the highest honour given by this institution for its relevant contribution to the community of Montes Claros.
  • Business administration students from the University of Montes Claros: appointed Site Montes Claros as ‘Best Place to Work’ and ‘Top Industry’ in 2006 in consideration of the site's business and Triple Bottom Line practices.
